A New Day - A New Song

“For last years words belong to last year’s language and next years words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning.” TS Eliot

There may be few things we can depend on these days but without question, every time one of my favorite classic songs comes on the radio, I turn up the volume and sing along… loudly. Some songs just take me back to places and times I can’t forget. Some take me back to places and times I wish I could forget. Some are just great songs that have stood the test of time.

Music has always been a big part of my life. There was always music playing in my house when I was growing up. And as a pre-teen, well let’s just say the 70’s were musically EPIC! And yes I’m including disco. Harry Wayne Casey lived behind us in Hialeah, Florida and would open his windows and play the piano and sing. The mean old man who drove the Frito-Lay truck thought he was disturbing the peace. But my sisters and I thought he was dreamy. Don’t know who that is? He’s KC (from Casey) of KC and the Sunshine Band. I LOVE music!

That’s probably why God chose the verse He gave me on New Year’s Day:

Psalm 96- “Sing to the Lord a new song. Sing to the Lord all the earth. Sing to the Lord, Praise His name. Proclaim His salvation day after day. Declare His glory among the nations-His marvelous deeds among all peoples.”

Now I don’t think God is telling me to stop putting on my-my-my-my-my boogie shoes. But I DO think He is asking me to delete a few old tunes from my playlist like:

            There’s Nothing I Can Do

Hurry Up Heaven because Life Stinks

Jump! Jump! Til You Measure Up

Go Ahead and Hurt Me, I’ll Just Build a Wall

            Things Will Never Change

Most of the time I know these aren’t true but somehow Satan keeps getting my iTunes login and reinstalling them. This year I’m committed to locking him out! This year is different. I feel it.  Coming into 2016 songs of victory, possibility, goodness, and hope are flooding my soul. My new songs have emerged: ("To Worship You I Live" - Matt Gilman)

“I just want to bless Your name”

“I just want to make You glad”

“I just want to move Your heart- to give You all I am”

We don’t have to wait for the New Year to sing a new song. His mercies are new every day- every moment. What old songs are you replaying? What new song does God have for you?

If you don’t know yet, start with Psalm 96:

Praise- say good things- express thanks, love or respect for God (His name)

Proclaim- say something clearly (His salvation)

Declare- say something confidently (His glory)

Come on, I want to put on my-my-my-my-my new song shoes-and sing ‘em with you!
