Day 24 of 31: Pray for Commitment to Stand

I imagine anyone who visits the Center for Human and Civil Rights in Atlanta needs a few minutes with their thoughts afterwards. I know I did after my recent visit.  I left the group to sit down outside. I scanned my pictures on my phone and read the notes I made while wandering through the museum. So many emotions- so many great quotes- so much sadness for the injustice and respect for those who took a stand.

As I looked up at the two fountains behind the museum, the wording on one captured me: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world." Margaret Meade.

I began to think about you-this band of women who have been marching on our knees for almost a whole month, taking territory for the Kingdom. It made me think that just like in Joshua's day we are "wet feet priests." We are taking a stand. We are carrying the presence of God and we are stepping into the torrent. We are taking the first steps towards the Promised Land, bringing the weary wanderers behind us. We may not be beaten and bloodied by human hands, but our enemy constantly tries to batter and bruise our spirits, our resolve, our mission. We must be thoughtful and committed; choosing the right battle, fighting with the right attitude, for the right reason.  

As the Civil Rights protestors marched to some Negro spirituals, I imagine the wet feet priests singing something like this Psalm as they stepped into the waters- depending on God, determined to stand.

Psalm 31

1 In you, Lord, I have taken refuge;
    let me never be put to shame;
    deliver me in your righteousness.
2 Turn your ear to me,
    come quickly to my rescue;
be my rock of refuge,
    a strong fortress to save me.
3 Since you are my rock and my fortress,
    for the sake of your name lead and guide me.
4 Keep me free from the trap that is set for me,
    for you are my refuge.
5 Into your hands I commit my spirit;
    deliver me, Lord, my faithful God
