Day 10 of 31: Siri killed Marco Polo

Did Siri kill Marco Polo? Just ask her... I did. She said, "Let me check. Marco Polo died in January 1324." I say she knows too much to be innocent. Okay, maybe it was involuntary manslaughter but somewhere along the way our need for step by step directions killed the adventure of a blind quest.

Growing up in south Florida we spent a lot of time in the pool playing Marco Polo. One player closes their eyes and shouts, "Marco!" Everyone else in the pool yells, "Polo!" They shout back and forth while the blind player tries to tag those who are evading. 

These days we greatly prefer the most direct route to our goals. Our Siri/GPS fixation charts the most direct course and even reroute us to save 1 or 2 minutes. That's fine for the road but not our relationship with Christ. He's not about speed.  I think he might prefer Marco Polo:

"... the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” (John 10)

Reflection: Are you willing to surrender your need for information and directions to follow God's voice? Do you really trust He is good and He loves you? How does the "stranger's voice" draw you away?

Prayer: Lord, I am marching to take territory for me, my family and my community. With so many voices calling out to me, I desperately want to know your voice. I want to walk this journey in wisdom, strength and fortitude. I willingly surrender my need for information and step by step directions knowing that in your infinite love for me, you are leading me.
