Day 2 of 31: Weakness

Women make things happen. We hold things together. We know how to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and do whatever it takes. Having this ability can lead to self-sufficiency which is the enemy of the strength God desires us to have. Scripture tell us that our weakness is a container for God’s power. 2 Corinthians 12:9-11(NIV) - But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. … For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Can you imagine gladly boasting about your weakness? What kind of job interview, eHarmony profile, or social media post would that look like? We learn from an early age to cover our flaws and compensate for our weaknesses, when scripture clearly tells us that our weakness activates God’s strength. So, what if we pulled our weaknesses out of the box in the back of our closet and presented them to Christ? I imagine like Peter’s distraction on the waves, Jesus would lift us up. Or like Thomas’s doubt we would somehow see love in the scars. Or like the woman caught in adultery, Jesus would meet us with grace not condemnation. And from that moment on, we would live changed and victorious because Satan can no longer use against you what you have given God.

Reflection: How do you think about weakness?  Where are you self-sufficient instead of God dependent?

Prayer: Dear Lord, I don’t like being weak. I’m afraid to be vulnerable. People will hurt me. I’ll be crushed-wounded beyond repair. But on this journey to march forward and fight the enemy, I understand I have to descend into weakness to ascend with personal bravery into YOUR strength. So I make my declaration, Father, you are faithful and you will strengthen me and protect me from the evil one. (2 Thessalonians 3:3)
